Raydius Creative partnered in the development of the Scottish Rite Learning Center web site as part of an AIR Austin development team consisting of designers and developers from Raydius Creative and Segars Communications.

Every year Knowbility (www.knowbility.org), an organization that promotes accessible information technology for the disabled, brings together top tier web developers to compete in AIR-Austin. The nationally recognized event generates awareness and support for accessible information and services on the web. During the one-day competition, web design/development teams work with non-profit organizations in the Austin area to produce websites that are functional to users with visual, auditory and mobility impairments. The sites created during AIR-Austin are then given to the non-profits free of charge and many teams continue to provide hosting and management as a yearly donation.

This year Raydius Creative partnered with Segars Communications to entered AIR-Austin for the first time. Team, Elemental Blend, competed against some of Austin's best developers and designers including teams from technology giants Dell and IBM. The end result was a first place win for Elemental Blend in the Formula One Division (Advanced Level) of the competition for work on www.dyslexialearningcenter.org.

Web accessibility is currently a hot topic in the world of information technology. For the past several years federal and state laws have been gradually changing to support individuals with disabilities. Here in Texas, House Bill 2819 went into effect in June 2005 which requires all Texas state agencies to provide users with disabilities access to all electronic and information technology. But now such laws may be extending into the private sector. The National Federation for the Blind (NFB) is currently in a legal battle with the Target Corporation over Target.com. The NFB claims that the site is inaccessible, thus violating a California law that incorporates the Americans with Disabilities Act. If the courts find in favor of the NFB a new legal precedent will be set that could force private businesses to provide accessible websites to their customers.
